Art Gallery App & Website

The product

I was creating an app to help people to view and buy art pieces without coming to the gallery. Before launching, I needed to figure out if finding the virtual and augmented reality and selecting an art piece is easy for the user to do. I’d like to understand what specific challenges the users might face in the visiting, information and buying process, and how I can help them fix those challenges.

The problem

  • Busy professionals lack the time to visit art galleries
  • People are not able to visit art galleries in person because of movement limitation or other reasons

The goal

Design an app for an art gallery to allow people to see art with help of a virtual reality tour from everywhere

My role and responsibilities

UX designer designing an app and a responsive website for an art gallery from conception to delivery:

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

User Research Summary

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I‘m designing for and their needs. The primary user groups identified through research were working adults who are interested in art, but have no time to visit an art gallery and adults with time but are not able to visit in person.

Impact

The app makes users feel like the Art Gallery thinks about how to meet their needs.

One quote from peer feedback:
“I like it and I’m interested. I want to go back and see more of it”

What I learned

While designing the Art Gallery App I learned that it’s a development process from the beginning til the end. In every step something is getting better. Usabilty studies and peer feedback show you the things you were not thinking about before.
